October was a busy month for Transition Houston, and November is showing signs of promise in this gorgeous weather to kick us off. It is no surprise that it is already time for our monthly meeting! We will meet Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Urban Harvest (2311 Canal St.). We will start at 7PM and conclude with time for snacks and conversation before 9:00.
We will discuss Permablitz (date TBD), our work with the Rice Environmental Club and the CSES to hold a Transition Film Series, and Joe Icet will discuss ideas for a citywide food security project. We also look forward to hearing about the Solar Oven Build workshop, led by Megan Parks, which took place this past Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.
Speaking of solar ovens, we had one at our booth at the Community Green Fest this last weekend that attracted lots of interest (and people hungering for the zero-carbon nachos!). Thanks to everyone who made it possible, and spread the word about Transition Houston.
We’ve had a number of other outreach and media activities during the last month to put our Transition initiative in the public eye (and ear). Mark and Mona were on KPFT’s Eco-ology show to talk about Transition and the Community Green Fest, Megan and Nancy were on Greenwatch on Houston Media Source (Comcast channel 17) to discuss the Transition response to the climate crisis. We were also recruiting for the Transition at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market on October 18th.
If you would like to learn about building a successful Transition Houston, please join us on Nov. 21 & 22 as Transition Houston hosts Training for Transition at Sheldon Lakes State Park. We have a few openings available for the course, which will be conducted by TransitionUS trainers. Information can be found at transitionus.org/event/training-houston-tx. Please consider attending, and please spread the word about the training!
Please contact us if you have questions.
We hope to see you at the meeting tonight and later this month at the training!
